Mrs Sunita Mody

My years at BBS Bengallee Girls’ High School, from grade 4 to SSC Class of 1966, were the best of my life. I was nurtured by the best teachers in every aspect of life.

The school day began with prayers and the singing of the national anthem in a massive hall. Thereafter, all subjects were taught by highly competent and committed teachers in our classrooms. The standard was so high that there was no need for private tuition at any stage.

Apart from academic rigour, I would appreciate how we were taught about personal health and hygiene. In addition, we were provided extra curricular activities such as sewing, painting, art work, etc. Those who excelled were given the opportunity to appear for external exams, with full support and coaching from the school.

Every Saturday was a day for debate amongst 3 houses, Sun, Moon and Star, helping to develop and shape our future ability in critical thinking and public speaking.

It was not always serious business; there were many light and fun moments which I remember with great fondness and amusement to this day.

I would be able to write a book of anecdotes about my time at BBS Bengallee Girls High School, but due to constraints on account of age and time, I’ve summarised my succinct memoirs as above.

In this school we lived the Unity in Diversity often mentioned casually in today. I am so proud of this school that I wish it even greater success and accolades in maintaining the same academic and cultural standards in service of our great nation.
